About the Business

Back to Health is a centre of excellence for musculoskeletal healthcare. We provide expert, evidence based patient centred care. The clinic is the only multidisciplinary clinic of its kind in the North East Wales area.

We treat patients suffering from musculoskeletal disorders; in addition we work with insurance companies, local health professionals, sports clubs & businesses providing rehabilitation & advice on back and joint problems. Supplementary to chiropractic care, the clinic specialises in other forms of physical therapy including physiotherapy, acupuncture & podiatry, We also offer extended care in the form of massage therapy (sports & remedial massage, Shiatsu & reflexology) & exercise rehabilitation programmes.Pain is an emotional response to a physical stimulus and for this reason we offer talking therapies (hypnotherapy & counselling) to support our treatments.

Back to Health was set up in Wrexham by Doctor of Chiropractic Peter Wagenaar in 2006. Previous to this Peter was employed as an Associate Chiropractic at the establised Skelian group clinic in Cheltenham. Peter’s wife Nia is Practice Manager at Back to Health and was born in Rhosllannerchrugog. The second Back to Health clinic opened in Mold in September 2014.

The clinics are open every day Monday – Saturday, from am to pm (9 – 1400 Saturday). We have a 24 hour emergency service where telephone triage and advice is given. Appointments are available outside of these clinic hours on individual request. We ensure wherever possible that same day emergency appointments are available for existing and new patients.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture

Traditional acupuncture is a healthcare system based on ancient principles which go back nearly two thousand years. It has a very positive model of good health and function, and looks at pain and illness as signs that the body is out of balance. The overall aim of acupuncture treatment, then, is to restore the body’s equilibrium. What makes this system so uniquely suited to modern life is that physical, emotional and mental are seen as interdependent, and reflect what many people perceive as the connection between the different aspects their lives.

Based on traditional belief, acupuncturists are trained to use subtle diagnostic techniques that have been developed and refined for centuries. The focus is on the individual, not their illness, and all the symptoms are seen in relation to each other. Each patient is unique; two people with the same western diagnosis may well receive different acupuncture treatments.

Traditional acupuncturists believe that the underlying principle of treatment is that illness and pain occur when the body’s qi, or vital energy, cannot flow freely. There can be many reasons for this; emotional and physical stress, poor nutrition, infection or injury are among the most common. By inserting ultra-fine sterile needles into specific acupuncture points, a traditional acupuncturist seeks to re-establish the free flow of qi to restore balance and trigger the body’s natural healing response.
