Having Treatment
During your first visit I will gain a thorough understanding of your main complaint and your general health and lifestyle. This will involve asking questions about your current symptoms, medical history, and general wellbeing.
I will also take your pulse on both wrists and look at your tongue. Particularly in the case of musculoskeletal conditions I may need to carry out an examination for areas of muscular tension or pain. In this way I will gain a complete picture of your treatment needs.
Based on all the information you have given I will put together your personalised treatment plan, tailored specifically to your own particular needs. Where appropriate I may suggest that we incorporate other elements into your treatment, such as for example the application of gentle heat, the use of cupping therapy which is similar to a massage, or treatment with electro-acupuncture which is similar to using a tens machine.
I will take time to explain fully all aspects of your treatment before we begin. Your comfort and peace of mind are my highest priorities and I will always seek your consent before we begin any examinations or treatment. If you are unhappy about anything or would like more information before deciding, you are free to choose at any time.
Your first treatment will last approximately 1.5 hours and follow-up treatments will last around 1 hour. During your treatment I will use very fine single-use, pre-sterilised needles to stimulate specific acupuncture points on your body. The needles are left in for around 20 minutes and during this time you may experience some tingling or a slightly dull ache around some of the acupuncture points.
I can also provide lifestyle and dietary advice, which will complement and enhance the health benefits of your acupuncture treatment.
